Diabetes - A National Epidemic
Author: Troy Simon

Are you a diabetic? If so, you are definitely not alone. There are approximately 16 million people in the United States who have diabetes. Public health experts believe diabetes will be the next great lifestyle disease epidemic to afflict the United States. A study by doctors from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently startled people with the finding that the prevalence of diagnosed cases of diabetes had increased 33% over the past eight years.

While an estimated 11 million have been diagnosed, 5 million people are not aware that they have the disease. Each day approximately 2,200 people are diagnosed with
diabetes. About 798,000 people will be diagnosed this year. Do you have a friend or family member with diabetes? If you have not been diagnosed as a diabetic, are you perhaps one of the millions that are undiagnosed? The following are some warning signs to look for:

· Frequent urination
· Unusual thirst
· Extreme hunger
· Extreme fatigue
· Irritability
· Frequent infections
· Blurred vision
· Cuts / bruises that are slow to heal
· Tingling / numbness in the hands and feet
· Recurring skin, gum or bladder infections

There are two primary reasons for Diabetes, 1) A prolonged diet high in carbohydrates and 2) Improper and under nourishment. Today, most people with diabetes are only treating the symptoms and not getting to the root of the problem. Furthermore, most medications given to diabetics are compounding problems instead of getting to the source. The best way to manage Diabetes is to get to the root causes.

Diabetics can help protect themselves by changing their daily routine. Although doctors have stated that there is no cure for diabetes, the following is recommended:

· Exercise
· Reducing sugar consumption
· Improved nutrition
· Nutritional supplementation

A company named Sportron International has developed a “ Diabetic Pack “ that is nutritionally supporting today’s crisis with dramatic results. World renown nutritionist, Dr. W. Alan Tomlinson recently said, “Sportron’s Diabetic Pack is the most advanced nutritional support available and has been scientifically developed to intervene and assist in cases of abnormal sugar metabolism.”

The bottom line is that Diabetes has become a national epidemic. In an effort to assist Diabetics, there is a Weekly Diabetic Support Call with Live Q & A session Thursdays 8:30 EST 212-990-8000 passcode 9902# . This is not a sales call, it is a support call. provide a weekly environment where people can build relationships, feel cared about, share their ideas and ask questions... sort of a "radio talk show format"... very relaxed, impromptu and therefore always different each week. Diabetes Burnout: What To Do When You Can't Take it Anymore
Diabetes Burnout is an interactive book that addresses the emotional issues that contribute to poor glycemic control and provides guidance to overcoming the barriers to good self-care. Worksheets help readers assess their current state of motivation and establish a successful plan of action.
Customer Review: Diabetes Burnout
EXCELLENT book for those living with diabetes. Diabetes burnout is very common. This book is full of tips, suggestions, and even tests, to help you in dealing with diabetes.
Customer Review: Golden empathy at first but it only goes so deep
When I first saw the chapter for "Werewolf Syndrome" I knew I had to buy this book. It makes for an interesting read at first to learn about others' experiences. Though one thing the author fails to do is provide instruction on the process of motivation, and only provides a very shallow surface, if any, of scientific insight into why people get "burned out". I would suggest going to the book store and skimming this book to feel better about yourself but don't take it home with you. One chapter he could've included would have been MY GENERAL PHYSICIAN HAS MISDIAGNOSED ME! I was burned out on my diabetes type II management. I couldn't get my sugars down! I would go to my GP and get the advice of take these pills and eat right. Then come back in three months we'll see if you're better. After two years I finally went to an endocronologist, *slap-slap*, and he is convinced I am type I LADA diabetes. Sure enough after a couple of insulin shots I am feeling normal! (Well, normal feels like a drug after having hyperglycemia for two years.) This is my chapter for the burnout book, sc$&@ the GP and go to an endocronologist.

Customer Review: A book your doctor can learn from
As a hypoglycemic, I am trying to find out what I can do to keep my blood sugar level. Dr. Murray provides the reader with more suggestions than just eating right and exercising. The addition of supplements is very helpful. He also educates on the connection between hypoglycemia and diabetes. This is important for hypolycemics to know since it is very possible for this condition to turn into diabetes. I highly recommend Hypoglycemia: The Classic Healthcare Handbook, by Jeraldine Saunders and Harvey M. Ross in addition to this book.
Customer Review: Easy to read, clear and to the point!!!!
I have low blood sugar and throughout the past few years I have read many books on the subject of sugar. In fact tonight I was reading; The Sugar Addict's Total Recovery Program. As I was reading this book I was getting frustrated at how wordy the book was and how wordy the other books had been that I had read before. The book by Michael T. Murray is clear and to the point. It's an easy read but invaluable for the information it conveys. It is definitely my favorite book and I have been recommending and purchasing it for friends and family for years.

Customer Review: This organizer holds everything I need for my diabetes
I was searching for something that could hold all of my diabetes related supplies....I did not like the case my meter came with. The one drawback is that once filled, you will need a larger than normal handbag to carry it. If you use syringes and vials of insulin, this organizer is perfect!
